I finally decided to get myself a new Nintendo 3DS XL (bougth the Mario & Luigi Dream Team Limited Edition from Amazon). I knew I wasn’t going to be in love with it, but I hoped I liked it a lot. My main problem right now is that the eshop card I bought from Play-Asia is not working, and their support is taking forever to reply. I hope it gets fixed, otherwise I wasted $50.
I’m stuck with the only game that came with the device (Mario & Luigi dream team). It’s not quite a bad game, but it’s not my favorite. I want to play New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Mario Kart 7. In fact, the only reason I got the 3ds was to play Mario Bros games. Isn’t Mario and Pokemon the only reasons why anybody still buys Nintendo consoles?
Back to the 3DS, wow, it feels like it came from the 90’s. The screen is awful. It’s not a bad screen, but it sucks when you’re used to the nice screens of current touch devices (I love my Galaxy Note 3. The iPad Air is gathering dust, but I still love its screen).
The controls are nice, and easy to use. The graphics, I’m not going there because everybody knows by now that Nintendo isn’t interested in the graphics. And the 3D effect, it’s nice for 2 minutes. Then you’ll turn it off and never use it again.
I’m sure that I’ll get used to the 3DS once I get the games I want to play, but it probably won’t be used a lot. It sucks that you have to pay $30-40 dollars for a game. And yet, it’s what you have to do if you want to play any type of Mario game (unless you install an emulator on your PC or Android device to play old school nintendo games).
The price of Nintendo games isn’t even the biggest deal. It’s the selection of games. There are several games to choose from, but it’s an insignificant selection compared to the amount of games you can get for iOS and Android. Nintendo should open its doors to independent game developers and create a better store experience. I’m pretty sure Nintendo could be way more successful if anybody could create a game for the 3DS.
What do you think?
