These are Jennie Somogyi’s feet; she and her feet are part of the New York City Ballet.
She said: “My ballet teacher thought I was strong for my age. She told me never to pamper my feet. A lot of dancers tape their toes, but she said I shouldn’t: If I was ever without tape, I wouldn’t be able to dance.”
It looks like ballet dancers have to endure a lot of pain and suffering. Begoña Cao says: "I broke a metatarsal on stage once. I was performing a solo and heard this crack. I didn’t realise I’d broken it at the time, because you’re used to taking pain. I also get soft corns - little bits of hard skin between your toes. They’re agony when you’re on stage"
